Together with our customers, we have developed an entirely new unique gate system that is suitable for all types of farms. The goal was to create a flexible gate with durable and robust sections that can easily be replaced and changed as needed. We have succeeded in this – our new versatile and robust gate system is completely flexible and adaptable. We have chosen to call this gate system the flex gate. The new generation of gates!
With this new gate system, you can easily add to, rebuild, extend and replace sections over time and as your needs change. The sections are put together with vertical bolted joints and provide a robust and versatile gate that is easy to handle. The flex gates are made of steel with hot-dip galvanised surface treatment that maintains a high quality year after year of use.
The Flex gate system is suitable for many different areas and can be used as a gate opening for pastures, loose housing, herding paths, collecting yards, gates inside stables and barns, exercise areas, stalls or as temporary enclosures and gate sluices. There are many possibilities for this type of gate.
"Kellfri has hit on a smart solution with the gates. They are highly customisable while being robust. My strongest argument for others to buy Flex gates is that they are light, stable, easy to install and adaptable to different widths. The name Flex gate says it all." Roger Olsson, Norra Lötens Allehanda.
THE FLEXIBLE GATE – AN EXAMPLE OF KELLFRI’S PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Kellfri develops its own products, and the idea for these often comes from the customers – or from employees who themselves have a farm and identify different needs. It took three years from the time the idea for the flex gates was born until, after several years of testing and improvement, the gates were launched as a world first by Kellfri.
Flexible telescopic gates that are assembled according to the required dimensions are a long-awaited solution and a sustainable and economical alternative for gate openings.
"It’s an economic and environmental sustainability issue, being able to adapt your gates over time. Initially, a gate might hang in an opening that's 4.5 metres wide. But if the farm buys a larger tractor, the dimensions of the gate need to be changed. Here we saw a need," explains Fabian Hellgren, Product Manager at Kellfri.
"As we work a lot with end customers, we get a closeness and can tune in to their needs and views. We also work closely with around 30 selected test farms".
Design-protected solution up to eight metres
The length of the flex gate can be changed by removing or adding sections, up to 8 metres. There is also a telescopic section to fine-tune the measurement. It's also easy to replace a section that has been damaged, for example, if you should collide with a gate.
"We are the only company in the world to have this solution and have design-protected it. For gates over 6 metres, we recommend that you buy accessories that stabilise and support the gate, such as support wheels and wires".
The flex gates provide sustainable logistics
For up to 40 years, agricultural gates have been sold with frames and tubes welded together in fixed lengths, up to a certain dimension. The length is limited by the fact that it is difficult to send a gate that is over five metres, and shipping is very expensive.
The new flex gate from Kellfri is supplied in sections on a pallet, which makes logistics easier. 'Flat packs' give more efficient storage, lower shipping costs and reduced environmental impact of the delivery.
The process may take time
Launching a new product is part of a long process where the product undergoes a number of tests.
"We don't release anything that's second-rate. In the past, Kellfri focused on the lowest price. Over the past six to seven years, we have concentrated on quality and are investing in affordable products, with functionality and quality over time," concludes Fabian.
THE FLEXIBLE GATE – THREE DIFFERENT BASIC DESIGNS
Fixed gate (1.5 m section)
Fixed gate with reinforced diagonal stays, also known as cross braces, for better rigidity and stability. (1.1 m section)
Adjustable telescopic gate with a telescopic end of 95 centimetres, where you can easily fine-tune the length up to the gate post. (1.5 m – 2.45 m section)
Package solutions
In order to simplify things for you as a customer, we have put together ready-made package solutions based on length, different combinations and properties.
Which gate solution is right for you?
The choice of gate depends partly on the types of animals you keep, e.g. whether you have full-grown large animals such as cows, horses or small animals such as young animals, calves, sheep or alpacas, etc., and how the gate will be used and how long it should be.
If you have younger or smaller animals, Standard Flex can be a good start, which you can then add to. If you have a combination of both large and small animals, Combi Flex is a suitable combination to choose. If you have full-grown larger animals, we recommend Combi Plus Flex with diagonal stays for a stable and strong construction.
If you want to be able to adjust your gate to an exact dimension, our combinations Telescopic gate combi Flex or Telescopic gate combi plus Flex are the choice for you.
If you would like more guidance regarding the choice of gates, you can contact your dealer and they will help you find the right solution for you.

KELLFRI’S TEST FARMS HAVE TESTED THE FLEX GATE IN THEIR FARM ENVIRONMENTS
Torastorps Dexter – First test farm’s impression of the new flex gate
Part of the work to develop more affordable products is carried out through collaboration with Kellfri’s test farms.
"The flex gate is easy to adapt to the size you need. Anyone with large cattle may need to buy FLEX100X, which is reinforced with braces. However, for our Dexter, the gate with FLEX150 and FLEX150TG is perfect," says Anton Nilsson at the Scanian farm Torastorps Dexter, one of the farms that has tested and evaluated Kellfri’s new flex gate.
"At the moment we’re using it as a swing gate, about 6.5 metres long, at our open shed. I also have plans to order more gates and fasten them with 90 degree angle bars to create a box that can be swivelled.
Recommends – with braces
"There were no braces with the sections we tested. This means the gate can settle if impacted from above, for example if an animal should lift itself up, but this can be avoided with braces. Then I also think the gate can be suitable for heavy cattle. As a whole, the gate and hinges feel very robust and it is easy to handle," concludes Anton.
Norra Lötens Allehanda – The second test farm’s impression of the new flex gate
"The flex gate is a smart solution to easily install a gate. It’s easy to put together into the size you want. And it’s easy to include a telescopic section. I’ve only found two things which I’ve proposed to Kellfri that they should adjust. Beside that, the gate solution is very smart," says Roger Olsson at the Norra Lötens Allehanda farm in Dalarna, also one of the farms that has tested and evaluated Kellfri’s new flex gate.
How the farm uses the gate
Norra Lötens Allehanda has cows and horses in loose housing, and an open shed with deep bedding.
"We have temporary pastures for some cows in the summer. We can move the flex gate with us everywhere. We use it as the entry and exit to the enclosed pastures when feeding, and at a large roof where we have the horses when saddling up. The flex gate can be opened both outwards and inwards, and it is very easy to choose depending on where the animals are. The gates are easy to handle and not too heavy. And it’s handy not having to focus on a fixed measurement. I’m going to buy more, I that know already.
Recommends the flex gate
"Assembling the gate is really easy, it’s done in a few minutes. I would definitely recommend the flex gate to others. The major benefits are being able to adapt to your own dimensions and the fact that the gates are very robust. They are relatively heavy, but they offer durability even if hit by the full weight of a falling animal. The flex gate works really well for both horses and cattle, but might be a little too open for sheep," concludes Roger.
